It is an organization that was established by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to manage and regulate the joint seat allocation process for admissions to various undergraduate engineering programs at Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other participating institutes.

The JoSAA seat allocation process is applicable for admissions to programs such as Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech), Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.), Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch), and Integrated Master's programs offered by participating institutes.
